As Time Goes By

High atop the Carlyle Hotel on Mahattan’s UES with sweeping views overlooking Central Park I married my creative partner and best friend Kevin Burg in an intimate ceremony on a perfect summer evening. The pianist filled the room with old jazz standards and so gracefully played As Time Goes By with our first kiss as husband and wife. The sounds of champagne popping and the sweet smell of summer flowers still fill my memory like it was yesterday…

The blessing:

Now you will feel no rain,
for each of you will be shelter for the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there will be no loneliness,
for each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two persons,
but there is only one life before you.
May beauty surround you both in the journey ahead
and through all the years.
May happiness be your companion,
and your days together be good and long upon the earth.

Above: Designer Katie Ermilio dressing me on the big day after 6 months of design and construction. Katie hand made my gown with the *most* delicate french lace, tailored buttons and skirt of layers upon layers of ivory silk and chiffon to create the illusion of water flowing when I walked. The entire inspiration for the dress was built around softness, modern romance, and classic grace. The best part: My dress had pockets!

Above: A gift from the designer, our monogram in my veil’s lace.

Something Old: 1930s engagement ring

Something New: Custom made Katie Ermilio wedding gown

Something borrowed: De Beers SwanLake diamond earrings & bracelet

Something blue: Blue monogrammed handkerchief that belonged to my Grandfather. The sweetest wedding gift from my maid of honor that caught many of mine & Kevin’s tears of joy.

The best artifact: Now on Kevin’s left hand sits my Grandfather’s wedding band. A symbol of family, love, and life long commitment not only from our vows but from the life and history that lives in the ring.

“For nobody else gave me a thrill,
With all your faults, I love you still,
It had to be you, wonderful you, it had to be you! “

But who could possibly shoot YOUR wedding?… The amazing Kate Murphy. All in film, all in natural light.

Thank you Kate for doing what I could not.

  9. Welcome back Jamie!

Your wedding was beautiful, your pictures are better than ever, and there are many good things about the blog’s new layout.
Yet, the massive logo at the top seemed a little too much… at least as seen on my 19 inch screen. The old layout was so delicate… i’m all in favour for changing and upgrading, as to differenciate the “eras”… but i feel something was lost.I hope you get this as constructive criticism.
Love your blog, will continue to visit it everyday.
Best of luck to you and your husband. =)

  10. You look so beautiful… I wish you and your husband all the best

  15. Hi Jamie, I love your dress. It is exactly what I have been searching for and haven’t been able to find. It is delicate, serene and tailored to perfection. Your wedding details are exactly what I would choose! I am a London based bride having a country house wedding next year.

I wonder whether you would be able to put me in touch with Katie Ermilio? I would love her to design my dress. If you do have a contact email for her please would you send it to me? Please be assured that this is a genuine and heartfelt enquiry!

    Many thanks,
    Emily
