Summer Lovin’

from the studio archives

I’m officially diving into summer. Lobster rolls, weekends in the Hamptons, and now we are down south for the next couple of weeks soaking up the sun, practicing our swing, catching up on reading, celebrating our 1 year anniversary and watching the Texas sun set. On a personal note, any minute now I will become a proud auntie to baby twins!

We will be back to regular posting here in July but in the meantime you can follow our summer travels and adventures on Instagram! I hope you have a beautiful summer.
Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.  ― Henry James

Donna Karan

Donna Karan Resort (27)

Donna Karan knows women. She knows how they sashay across streets, she knows how they command a corporate desk, she knows how they go out on the town. Donna Karan designs for all of the facets of a woman’s life, and nowhere was it more clear than in her most recent collection, “The L Word”.

Using several “L” words as inspiration – long, lean, languid, luxurious, light, limitless – Karan created a collection that captured the dualities of a modern woman. The pieces were an elegant mix of urban and calm, fitted and draped,  neutral and bright, allowing the woman who wears them to simply be, whenever and wherever she may find herself…now that is something this New Yorker can relate to.

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe Photographed May 2013

Lake Tahoe (2)

“It was the end of August, and the skies were cloudless and the weather superb…It seemed to me that nothing could be so fine and so romantic.” – Mark Twain

What is it about water that has such an effect on us? An afternoon of endless gazing we give to a vista of water so vibrantly blue it is as if a child colored it. Deep breaths… the simple joy of clean air fills your lungs and your body feels connected to the earth, this mesmerizing place of peace and tranquility. We walked on pine needles and felt the mist of roaring rapids vapor kisses on our faces and discussed how magnificent Mother Nature truly can be. A few days at Lake Tahoe, a few photographs to remember…

Lake Tahoe (3) Lake Tahoe (4)

“…at last the Lake burst upon us — a noble sheet of blue water lifted six thousand three hundred feet above the level of the sea, and walled in by a rim of snow-clad mountain peaks that towered aloft full three thousand feet higher still! It was a vast oval, and one would have to use up eighty or a hundred good miles in traveling around it. As it lay there with the shadows of the mountains brilliantly photographed upon its still surface I thought it must surely be the fairest picture the whole earth affords.”

Laura Love for Vera Wang Be Jeweled

When I was growing up in Texas I would fantasize what it would be like living in New York. How I would hail taxis in a rush to meet friends, walk down tree-lined streets under the anonymous gaze of passerby, and have nights of crisp cocktails and dancing to the jazz music filling the room, with the streaming lights of the city engulfing me in all the dreams I could dare to dream. When we met the face of Vera Wang’s new perfume Be Jeweled, Laura Love, I knew instantly from our conversation we should shoot a day in her life. She talked about her passion for ballet, her new role in New York as a model and what it is like being young and beautiful in this vast city of endless possibilities.

Here is a day in the life of Laura Love for Vera Wang Be Jeweled ~
