Supermodel Comfort

You know her face.  A fashion darling she’s a cover girl, shot for campaigns with Estée Lauder and Tiffany & Co, and this fall is starring in the new stunning Oscar de la Renta ads.

But what you don’t see behind this classic American beauty is a woman who likes to surf out in Montauk and throw on a pair of warm soft UGG boots when she emerges from the cold North Atlantic ocean. So it was no surprise when UGG tapped her to be the face of their new Classic Luxe Collection, a more refined fashion forward take on the comfort of UGG boots. I spoke to Carolyn about how a woman as chic and timeless as she is can pull off an UGG moment and she suggested wearing the new Abree style this fall “with a pair of leather pants, crisp button down and wool coat so now you don’t have to be afraid to wear your UGG boots out of the house.” Comfort can be a beautiful thing.

Meeting Cindy Ko

I was recently introduced to Cindy Ko, a Hong Kong based fashion blogger, through a mutual friend. Knowing nothing about her or her life half a world away I wondered what it is like to be her… who is Cindy Ko? She is so beautiful… this exotic orchid of a flower. I loved her face, its sultry sophistication. I asked if I could photograph her on the rooftop terrace of the Gramercy Park Hotel where she was staying while in the city. I liked to pretend each time I brought my camera up I was watching one of those old sexy Shanghai movies where the beautiful heroine communicates through her eyes and body movements in a struggle for what she wants. It brings to mind a quote from In the Mood for Love:

“It is a restless moment. She has kept her head lowered… to give him a chance to come closer. But he could not, for lack of courage. She turns and walks away.”

Why did you choose fashion blogging as a career?

I kind of just stumbled upon fashion blogging. I used to blog almost everyday on Xanga, I’d write about everything from day to day life to the random thoughts I’d have. It wasn’t until I saw a feature in vogue about fashion bloggers (six years ago) that I decided to specialize in one topic. Fashion. Now travel and lifestyle as well.  (more…)

United House Wrecking

United House Wrecking in Stamford, CT This weekend I went treasure hunting for furniture for my new apartment and found the most amazing store in Stamford, CT called United House Wrecking. It’s a cool mix of old antiques, modern furnishings  and straight up crazy things… I mean, who wouldn’t want to own their own “BIG” fortune teller?! And, the best part is it’s actually affordable.

I’ve been having such a struggle buying furniture for this space, a former mansion built in 1918 which has since been divided into apartments. Trying to balance the beauty of the old wood floors, stained glass windows and grand moldings while keeping it contemporary and within some sort of reasonable budget has been a fun challenge. So every weekend I set out in hopes of falling in love with something I can bring home to become a part of defining this new era of my home life.

Below, my new antique French dining table! The second I saw it I loved it, which is how I’m trying to find my pieces. Not just buying something that could work but waiting until I see something I feel connected to. Then I cross my fingers, pull out the measuring tape and hope it’s fate. Though I have been very happy enjoying my meals and a nice bottle of champagne on the terrace I will be glad to sit at a proper table… especially this one. (more…)
