A Provence Playlist

Driving around the South of France is transportive enough visually, but nothing finishes an experience like the sound of music. Romantic, timeless, and sprinkled with French, here is something to take you to this place where oceans of roses bloom and everyplace you go looks like a fairytale

Afternoon in the Garden

On photo shoot sets I prefer for the music to reflect the mood, theme, and emotion of the story being played out. Like a stage being set, all the players move in and out, their energy wrapping around the room, building until that last instant when all becomes quiet and focused and the moment is eternalized through the eye of the lens.

Post-shoot, I edit to the same soundtrack. The notes bringing to life the images again in that living, breathing, creative world we spend our lives trying to capture. Take a walk with me hand in hand with our imaginations, into Renoir’s garden, the inspiration behind our recent collaboration with Cartier, through the beauty of sound and power of dreams.

Winter Mornings

It’s Hibernating season. Though I do love to get out and play in the snow from time to time or take a dreamy winter vacation, most of the hours are spent indoors with a good book, magazine (currently obsessed with this for food | this for travel | this for interest), or watching documentaries.

Recently I watched Regarding Susan Sontag and I love her thoughtfulness on photography: “We have a notion about a photograph. You see, we want photographs to tell us the truth, and we value them because they really are records in a sense, let’s say, that a painting isn’t. At the same time we want photographs to lie. We want them to make us look good, that is to say, better than we normally look. Our sense of the world is now ruled and shaped by photographed images.” She goes on to state, “The problem is not that people remember through photographs, but that they remember only the photographs.”

I’ve sense started reading her book On Photography which starts with something I fully believe in, “To collect photographs is to collect the world.”

So this past weekend upstate, I spent every morning in a long hot bath, listening to soft old jazz and reading about that thing I love most of all- photography.

Here is a winter playlist for your own snowy mornings until that spring day comes and we emerge again….

Summer & Wine

Ecco-Domani-Summer-Cinemagraph-615

Recently we enjoyed a dinner party out in the country, drinking wine provided by our friends at Ecco Domani, and spending time catching up with the people we love. As we grilled, chatted, and relaxed in each other’s company, the soft and subtle sounds of the playlist below served as a perfect complement to the meal.

Below is our summer & wine playlist – as we head into the weekend, we hope you  spend it with the ones you love, share a bottle of wine, create new memories & make the most of this glorious season…

The Sounds of New York Fashion Week

turntable-615

I never paid much attention to the songs designers chose to play as they sent their seasonal creations down the runway on the world’s stage until we started making our Instagram recap videos (#fw15s) of our favorite designer’s shows. The sounds of the room reflect the mood, the muse, the feeling the designer is trying to create these garments for. As I think back to these videos, I really loved the song choices this season from Michael Kors using Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” to Ralph Lauren using Chris Botti’s “La Belle Dame Sans Regrets”. We put together a play list of all our favorite designer’s this season songs of choice for their fall / winter 2014 collections. I hope you enjoy them as I have.

Autumn Days

There is nothing like the light on a crisp autumn afternoon or a walk through Central Park as the leaves just begin to fall and crackle under your steps. Fall is my favorite season. The explosion of color saturation reminding you life is bursting at the seams while in the same glance the delicate falling leaves that show us all too well the presence of fleeting time.

Autumn landscapes just go hand in hand with road trips… the quiet solitude of driving, looking, and observing all the beauty of the season. My first road trip to Vermont in the fall was with my father. I had never seen such natural beauty and felt peace in such quiet spaces. I like to set memories to music. The memories I’ve made with the people I love, the memories that are yet to come, but I know they will just as I know every autumn the leaves will change colors and begin to fall.

So this playlist is yours now. For those long drives, or intimate dinners at home with friends and family, for the afternoons of quiet rain where the drops of water are absorbed by the velvet leaves floating in puddles or in your tweeds riding around in these last few days before the blankets of snow desaturate the fires of fall…

“Autumn comes on fiery wing

of flaming leaves,

and redbirds sing.

And twirling leaves fall to the ground

igniting magic all around.

So Winter waits, and Summer sleeps,

And Autumn, in the middle, keeps.”

― Belle Whittington

I hope you enjoy our list and please, we would love recommendations of songs to add! As in life, this list should forever be evolving… here’s to autumn days.
