Travel Tips!

Aside from photography there is one other subject I know quite a bit about: travel. I’ve done it until in tears, I’ve gone first class, by bus and train, and around again. One thing I’ve learned to do to make the whole experience less wrecking is to pack yourself an amazing amenities kit. The first thing I do when I get on a plane is to go through this process step by step to prepare myself for the flight and make the area around me (smell) more comfortable.

The most damaging aspect to travel is drying your skin out. Airplanes are the worst with their lack of humidity. I first started making my own amenities kit after traveling to Morocco with Kelly and she taught me the ways of surviving international coach with all the luxurious products we could possible slather on. And hey – anything to pass the time is always a good tip.

Here is what I’m currently carrying on these days while I bounce around from L.A. to Savannah to Telluride and beyond!

The Amenities

1. I love a good hydrating face mask. I don’t wear makeup, other than a little mascara on shorter flights, so I can keep hydrating my skin as much as possible. A great leave-on face mask is my favorite trick especially on overnight flights or long hauls across the states. SKIN INC has a pure deepsea hydrating mask that is clear which is amazing.

Bombshell Beauty

Bombshell_01

We had the privilege of working with some incredible artists on this shoot – not only Maggie herself, a talented and beautiful actress, but also Justin Woods, our hairstylist, and Ashlee Glazer, our makeup artist. They were kind enough to share their techniques so that you and I can get this bombshell beauty look…

How to get that “mack on me” makeup…

Ashlee took two eyeliners – MAC Teddy and MAC Coffee – and rubbed them all around the inner upper and lower water line and on the lid in a cat eye shape.

Ashlee blended the pencils together, creating a smooth, sexy shape that follows natural bone structure. Next, she used the Tom Ford Cocoa Mirage palette, brushing the dark brown on first and closest to the lash line. She buffed up with the medium brown all the way into the crease, fanning out by the brow bone.

Taking the bronze color from the same palette and using the NARS #14 brush – “it’s like a pencil smudge brush” – Ashlee rubbed underneath the eye along the lower lash line, following the shape of the eye and eventually angling upward to meet the “V” of the cats-eye.

30 Things I’ve Learned in these 30 Years…

HappyBirthdayBaby_01

Recently I celebrated my birthday and I have to say, I’m really loving my thirties. I feel wiser, I look slightly older which I love but feel young enough that nothing hurts (yet). I am independent in a way I wasn’t in my 20s and I’ve finally found my rhythm in life. One of my favorite expressions is “If I only knew then what I know now”… so I thought I’d just write it down. The things I’ve learned in the thirty-some-odd-years for anyone younger listening and for anyone older who might like to share with me their lessons so that my next 30 years are just as bright…

1. Have a dream. Follow your dreams.

2. Failures are not mistakes, only the lessons that give us stories.

3. GO WITH YOUR GUT. Always, always, always.

4. “The only thing to fear is fear itself.” That is what I think every time I get a “little nervous”. We don’t know what is about to happen so we can’t live our lives as if we do.

5. You never know what someone is dealing with personally so be kind.

6. Knowledge is power and opportunity. Opportunity is everything.

7. You may end up loving the things you once hated.

8. Do what you love for a living so you can love what you do. It’s the only time we’ve got, might as well spend it as well as possible.

9. Money does not define happiness.

10. It is the things that people make look easy that are the hardest to do.

11. A great photograph needs no caption because it has an idea, story or message within it.

12. Never be afraid to try something new.

13. Talk about what you love.

14. Giving is better than receiving.

15. Best friends are the keepers of your life’s memories.
