The East End

Exploring the hamptons in NYDJ's summer 2015 collection

After our great west coast adventure, NYDJ wanted us to do another travel journal but for the east coast and I thought what a wonderful way to spend a few days out in the Hamptons!  All last year we found ourselves in Amagansett as much as possible where we shared a house with friends, making memories around the fireplace in the winter months and by the pool in the summer ones. There is something about the light out there that is mystical. There is nothing like shooting out here, and some of my favorite stories were made just like that.  I used to lay in the grass on summer afternoons and watch the light dancing in the trees and as the sun set, wrapping it’s beams around objects like frosted glass. I loved exploring this east end of Long Island, home to so many inspiring artists, friends and amazing restaurants.

NYDJ is perfect for quick little summer getaways. The fit and feel of the clothing makes traveling for hours in a car or plane much more comfortable. Not to mention the philosophy of the brand is all about focusing on flattering the figure and natural curves while being effortless and non-fussy. Which means, if you’re like me, you can hop on a bike for a quick afternoon ride and then transition seamlessly into dinner looking put together.

With a suitcase full of new summer looks, we hoped in our vintage Mercedes convertible and hit the road to visit some of our old favorites haunts I’ve been longing for since the first day of spring…

Love Jack’s Coffee. It’s such a fun watering hole in both the city and out here in the country.  You always run into people you know in that most charming of small towns kind of way and from time to time you stand in line behind famous people like Giada de Laurentiis or Julianne Moore (happend).

One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was to visit Jackson Pollock’s artist studio in Springs, NY, just up the road from Amagansett. It was an incredible experience to walk into this barn studio that sits quietly on a meadow that drew Jackson here, influencd his work, as well as the work of Lee Krasner, his wife and fellow artist. I couldn’t believe we were able to walk on the floors where splatters of paint that made some of the most important American modern art works were made.  Continue reading “The East End”

When I Met You in the Summer

Hamptons_Magazine02

They say the light is everything in the Hamptons, so I say let’s put a gown and a girl in a garden and have a look. This summer Hamptons Magazine approached Kelly to style a sort of society portrait of some of the Hamptons “it” girls of summer and I was 100% on board to photograph it. The light out there is misty, in such a way that it dances with silver shiny felts of stardust. It makes everyone look ripe, the most beautiful versions of themselves. For this sitting, “When I Met You in the Summer“, I just leaned on what the Hamptons gives you so much of – beautiful nature, beautiful women, and above all…. beautiful light.

Ecco-Domani-Summer-Cinemagraph-615

Recently we enjoyed a dinner party out in the country, drinking wine provided by our friends at Ecco Domani, and spending time catching up with the people we love. As we grilled, chatted, and relaxed in each other’s company, the soft and subtle sounds of the playlist below served as a perfect complement to the meal.

Below is our summer & wine playlist – as we head into the weekend, we hope you  spend it with the ones you love, share a bottle of wine, create new memories & make the most of this glorious season…

Romantic Beach Picnic

The perfect date night, a romantic summer picnic on the beach.

For our 2nd anniversary this past Monday I wanted to do something low key, but utterly romantic so I planned a surprise sunset beach picnic for Kevin. I tried to get as creative as possible and make every aspect of the picnic a walk down memory lane.

For starters, instead of a blanket, I used a rug we bought together from the flea market in Paris which gave the scene a more formal feeling. I then surrounded the rug with clusters of sandalwood incense we bought on our recent trip to Bali. Everywhere we went on the island, this beautiful and sexy smell drifted by our noses; now it reminds us of those unforgettable sunrises from only a moment ago. I made it personal with our monogrammed glass hurricanes lanterns flanking the view of the setting sky. I brought our go-to Pinot Grigio by one of our favorite studio clientsEcco Domani, which brings back such fun studio memories – one of our first shoots at our new place. Just as I was talking about yesterday with “upgrading the everyday”, we toasted another year of marriage with monogrammed stemless wine glasses, formal, lovely, and personal (plus much less likely to spill on a sandy beach setup!)

Kevin *loves* crab, so I asked my friend Molly when she was over for dinner for a crab salad recipe that would go well with the Pinot Grigio for our picnic (recipe below!). I also had lots of beautiful fresh finger foods from the farmer’s market such as morning radishes with a little pile of Maldon salt, a couple of flaky, yummy farm stand cheeses, the most beautiful petite blackberries, an avocado, salami for depth and to finish it off – grapes. So classic. And just so there were no pesky bugs around, I threw down some citronella candles in terra-cotta pots. To finish it off, I had our assistant Carly stop by and snap a few photos of us together, just like we did 2 years ago when we said “I do“.

We sat on the beach and sipped wine, took black and white photos of each other in an intimate dance we’ve been doing now for years, shared food, and watched the colors of the sky paint their way into darkness. Happy Anniversary to my husband, thank you for my beautiful anniversary gift (scroll down to see!) I’ll cherish forever which will remind me of this magical era of our life and cheers to forever, wherever that may take us.

Thank you again, Ecco Domani, for the memories…
